Across the upper midwest, the curious annual ritual known as "The Shedding of the Coats" is fully underway.
Though temperatures just barely snuck above freezing this weekend, abundant sunshine and the first glimpses of brown grass peeking through gray snow yielded the first concrete evidence that spring may actually be heading up the highway after all.
Ignoring the still-present bone chill, kids (and some deluded blog writer parents) frolicked sans overcoats in the afternoon sun. Truth be told, I suffered a particularly over-the-top reaction, throwing open windows throughout the house and driving around town windows down, radio up. The only thing missing from my summer fantasy was the sound of the Beach Boys, but then I hate the Beach Boys so that wouldn't have added much to my very real good vibrations, would it?
LSW celebrated in her own charming way, touring the yard and rattling off the first draft of a seasonal "Honey Do" list. I admit I was only half paying attention (a trait that's landed me, understandably, in some hot water before) but I did pickup that it looks like I'll be spending considerable time atop some scaffolding and holding a paint brush very soon.
Which has absolute disaster written all over it, but that's a topic for another day.
That aside, it was nice to actually be able to do something outdoors other than shovel snow and curse loudly at the precipitating heavens.

You know the last thing I'd be doing if I was lying on a beach, Pare? Reading somebody's blog, that's what.
I mean, I'm flattered that you would still check up on me from the beaches of FLA, but girl, where's yo priorities at?
Oy! "Honey-Do" lists and not listening...its such a familiar scene!
Glad you guys got a thaw for a minute - it does seem like Wisconsin has been in the back of the big freezer for quite awhile - any freezer burns, yet?
I've got an GREAT idea - it's a very nice 65 degrees here in Vegas today. You guys can come out here and you can help my hubby paint OUR house, (while we girls sit in the sun and wrangle the kids) then we'll play cards, watch football movies and drink beer afterwards (my 11 y/o daughter will kid-sit) AND you can skip the impending kiddie party!
How is it that most guys get honey-do lists from their wives, and in my house it's the other way around?
And why was it 57 on Friday and 30ish today?
Where's the fairness?
*sigh*
I've been watching the river that is in my ditch slowly expand. I'm waiting for it to take over my sidewalk and work it's way into the living room.
